You're A Hypocrite

Our society has developed so far, and continues to develop, in terms of calling out the traditional rhythms of discrimination (racial, sex, homophobic, etc.) and I love this, in that we are having discussions and educating each other as to how and why these forms of discrimination have come about, why they are wrong, and what we can do to change our attitudes surrounding these issues. However, this has, in some ways, turned into a mission of discovering any such discrimination perpetrated by those in the public eye (which can be a good thing as these people are influencers and role models within society), and this mission into an unforgiving culture of not allowing people to recover from their mistakes, many of which tend to have been made when they were younger and none-the-wiser as regards the topics they were discussing. This has become known as the 'cancel culture' and has been responsible for bringing down the image of many in the public opinion (Jeffree Star, James Char...

Be ̶W̶e̶i̶r̶d̶ Normal

I feel like we have so many ideals and rules surrounding our behaviour within society. Of course, this can be very good to a certain extent, in that it gives us a set of shared behaviours within society which go towards helping us understand each other and build a community that has shared values, making us feel like we belong. It also, more simply, can teach us right from wrong and can show us the personal boundaries we need to respect. However, it seems that we've created so many rules at this point that it's almost harder to be 'normal' than it is to be 'weird'. We have rules concerning how we style our hair (is it too bright? does it not look 'presentable'?), how we dress (bold and statement pieces are looked at with a mixture of shock and awe, as if it's brave to wear them - like 'you do you', but just know it's not normal), and, for women, the makeup that we wear or even don't wear (it's either too much, or you should put ...
